Rumours have begun, claiming that Bon Iver’s upcoming sophomore album was accidentally leaked by Apple’s iTunes store almost a month before its official release date.
According to The Guardian, iTunes was authorised to begin selling Bon Iver’s new single ‘Calgary’ on their online store last Tuesday (May 17th). However, the retailer is said to have accidentally offered the whole album for purchase, a move which resulted in the LP finding its way onto file sharing networks that afternoon.
Fans were able to buy the album momentarily from the store, and although few took the opportunity before it was pulled down, it is believed that iTunes are entirely responsible for the leak of Bon Iver’s self-titled second studio effort.
iTunes have declined to comment on the allegations, but Apple have a history of accidentally releasing music before the scheduled release date: one of the more notable cases occured with a Kelly Clarkson album in 2009.
Meanwhile, Bon Iver performed an emotional medley of Bonnie Raitt’s ‘I Can’t Make You Love Me’ and ‘Nick of Time’ on the ‘Late Night With Jimmy Fallon’ show this week. You can view the performance below:
